Psychotherapy – Cynthia Flowers, LMHC

In my work, I weave together several threads that have been very important in my own healing and development. Each thread has the intention of developing insight and establishing an orientation to a deeper and wiser part of our being. I encourage clients to learn about their own thinking, emotional and physiological processes, and teach practices that encourage more joyful, resilient and peaceful states of mind and embodiment. My work is with adults, and I treat a wide variety of conditions including anxiety, trauma, depression, attachment disorders, psychological aspects of illness, grief, aging and life transitions.

One of the threads that I incorporate is body-centered psychotherapy. It is a way of working in which we gently access experiences held in the body, usually outside of consciousness, that do not typically respond to talk therapies. These experiences might include early abuse or neglect, ruptures in attachment, medical procedures, accidents or other kinds of trauma such as war or natural disasters. The goal of this work is to build psychological an physiological resources that enable a careful release of trauma and long held emotions.

Another important thread that runs through my work is the practice of mindfulness, the ability to be aware of our thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations and the surrounding environment in a non-judgmental, allowing, spacious manner. This capacity to observe ourselves in a neutral, compassionate way is a crucial skill that can be learned and honed, and is the prerequisite for significant growth and transformation to occur.

I teach a mindfulness class on the last Monday of each month from 5:30PM to 7:00PM. It is open to anyone.

The third thread that deeply informs my work is transpersonal or spiritual psychology. This is a branch of psychology that focuses on deeper dimensions of our being beyond the ego, having more to do with wholeness and authenticity. In my work, I am listening to the deeper and wider intelligence that is guiding your life, and wanting to help develop your capacity to hear this guidance. I am not just concerned with your recovery from wounding or trauma, but am also wanting to support what is trying to grow and develop in your life.

I take Premera, BCBS, Regence and Lifewise, and have a sliding fee scale for those who do not have insurance or choose not to use it.
